Today, self-publishing of books is becoming more popular than traditional publishing. Sometimes, the writer prints the book using xerography or by a computer printer or get their books printed on demand. By getting books printed on demand, the need of inventory is eliminated.

With the development of technology, the self-publishing of books concept is also developing. The digital printing technology has made the printing of books, attractive and easier. However, this is not the only reason as to why many writers choose self-publishing of books.
If a writer decides to self publish a book, then there can be many reasons responsible it.

• It can be that your work is not of interest to traditional publisher.

• The fee of the traditional publisher is out of your budget.

• Traditional publisher is not confident on the sale of your book.

• The topic on which the book is based is controversial.

• Publisher is giving a small percentage return from retail sales.

• Publisher is not agreeing to publish a book of an unknown writer.

• The traditional publisher is not willing to work with a first-time author.

Beside all the above-mentioned reasons, there can be a reason that the writer himself want to do the business of publishing. The writer wants to have full control over the book, from its editing to distribution that is impossible if he choose a traditional publisher. Sometimes, the writer targets limited market to get good financial return, as with the limited market, the writer is confident about the sale in that market. This is another reason for a writer to choose self publishing of book.

Self-publishing of books has an advantage of earning more money, but at the same time, it means working very hard to get positive results after the launch of book. The average number of books sold in U.S. is not more than 2000 copies, the maximum part of it is covered by bestsellers, and highly promoted books of traditional publishing houses, and among them, an average of only 200 copies of self-publishing are sold. This states that you have to devote the same time and effort as you have devoted to writing that book, then only there is a chance of successful in self-publishing of books. Although, it might be discouraging for the writers, but it is a fact.

To conclude, self-publishing of books can be a satisfying and profitable business, but at the same time, it can be a gamble, which may give loss to you. So, study well before coming up to the decision of self-publishing a book.
